“Who Mahj’d?” Mahjong scorecard.
Scoring is the part of game night that gets argued about. This one-page sheet takes the math out of it, so you can settle each hand in under a minute and get back to the tiles.
One sheet, one game night.
“Mahj’d” is table slang for “declared Mahjong”, so the sheet asks the only question that matters after each hand.
- Twelve hands, four seats. East, South, West and North, with a date line and an optional “pie” buy-in.
- Record the hand, not the math. Mark who Mahj’d, write the card value, circle Self-pick or Jokerless, and note the discarder, who pays double.
- Running totals per seat. A ± column and a total column for every player, so nobody adds up a stack of numbers at the end.
- Payout chart, read across. Values 25 to 75 for discard, self-pick and Jokerless wins.
- Bragging rights built in. A “Mahjs tonight” tally and a Mahj Queen (or King) line.
Print tips: portrait, “Fit to page” or 100% scale. Print a stack for the season, or slip one sheet into a sheet protector and use a dry-erase marker. Keep a few in your mat bag with the dice.
Settle a hand in four steps.
Set the table
Write everyone’s name beside East, South, West and North, plus the date and the pie, if you play for one.
Record the win
Mark who Mahj’d, write the hand’s value from the card, and circle Self-pick or Jokerless if it applies.
Read the payout
Find the value in the payout chart and read across. Note the discarder, who pays double on a discard win.
Update totals
Add ± for each seat and carry the running total. At the end of the night, crown your Mahj Queen or King.
No math. Just read across.
The same chart printed at the bottom of every sheet, here for quick reference. Amounts assume 1 point = 1¢.
- Discard win: the other two pay the first number; the discarder pays the second (double).
- Self-pick: everyone pays double.
- Jokerless: doubles it all (not Singles & Pairs hands).
- Wall game: nobody pays.
House rules vary. Agree on your table’s scoring before the first hand. The rules behind this chart are in Lesson 5.

Scorecard questions.
Is the scorecard free?
Yes. Download and print as many copies as you like for your own games.
What paper size is it?
It’s a single portrait page. Choose “Fit to page” in your print settings and it prints cleanly on US Letter or A4.
Who pays double?
On a discard win, the player who threw the winning tile pays double and the other two pay single. On a self-picked win, all three opponents pay double.
What counts as Jokerless?
A winning hand with no Jokers at all. It doubles the payout, except for Singles & Pairs hands, which can’t use Jokers anyway.
Do we have to play for money?
No. Many groups just keep points. The chart works the same way: read the numbers as points instead of cents.
